When the homeowners purchased their new Canton home, they knew they needed to make it their own. With a dated kitchen layout and a floor plan that simply did not work for their family, the owners contacted Lisa Zompa of Kitchen Views to help transform their new home to fit their needs. Together with National Millwork, Lisa and the homeowners added cabinets and other storage to multiple rooms along with renovating all of the bathrooms and the kitchen. The final result – a stunning modern, yet classic, design that is perfect for this active family.
Kitchen
Before: The layout was out of date and not practical for entertaining, something the family enjoys.
Solution: The new design opened up the space and created a better flow for both entertaining and daily family life. In an effort to keep the kitchen timeless while still paying attention to current trends, the white cabinets were paired with a beautiful blue-gray island. The large island provides plenty of counter space for both cooking and dining. Keeping the floor plan open with the other areas of the home allows for effortless entertaining.
Desk
Before: There was a small desk just off of the kitchen. However, the family needed more storage and counter space to keep up with their teenage children and their friends.
Solution: A walk-in pantry was added to provide more storage and decrease clutter. A larger desk with additional storage was added to create a focal point that was practical for the family’s needs. The homeowners wanted to maintain the flow from the adjacent kitchen but prevent the desk from looking too much like “kitchen cabinets”. The same color from the island and door style was used to maintain flow between the two spaces. However, the glass along the top was added for items to be displayed and the bookshelf on the ends helps to emphasize that it is a separate and unique space.
Den
Before: The den was originally the dining room in the home. To better service the updated flow of the home it was moved to a different area leaving a large space open for a new use.
Solution: This newly found space was the perfect spot for additional storage. New bookcases create the perfect frame for their television. A custom countertop was created by National Millwork for both this area and the desk above, allowing all rooms to blend together beautifully.
Custom Additions
Wet Bar
Lisa worked closely with the expert craftsmen at National Millwork to create this custom design. The wet bar was originally designed to serve the Media Room for the teenage children and their friends. However, it’s perfect placement next to the French doors leading to the outdoor pool also helps facilitate outdoor entertaining on a beautiful summer day.
Mud Room
Once again partnering with National Millwork, Lisa designed a custom bench and storage unit for the updated mudroom. To combat the clutter that often comes with the busy lives of two teenagers, the bench combined with upper storage is the perfect catch-all for shoes, coats, backpacks, and sporting equipment.
Bathrooms & Laundry Room
All of the bathrooms and the laundry room were updated with new cabinetry and more modern design. Continuing the theme of cool colors throughout the home, the new cabinetry adds functionality and high style to this cohesive design.
